Bernie Madoff’s luck just isn’t getting better. After being sentenced to rot in jail for the next 150 years, his son’s suicide and divorce from longtime wife, authorities have revealed that his wine collection is going up for auction as well. Not like the sucker would ever be able to drink the stuff again, but his vast collection of Bordeaux, including Château Pétrus 1990 priced alone at around $60,000 will go to support the families from which he stole.
The wines, set to appear on the auction block tomorrow from New York based Morrell & Company Fine Wine Auctions, have listed 58 lots that range from the extremely rare and vintage, to grocery store bottles of Cinzano Vermouth, prized at just $60.

As penned from the wine auction site Morrell & Company, it doesn’t matter if you’re knee-deep in collecting vintage wines or you’re simply interested in the extraordinary – this collection from Bernie Madoff is something that will satisfy all taste buds. Divided up by country, the listings include French offerings like red and white burgundy, including Corton-Charlemagne from Coche-Dury, Rhone Valley, Suternes and Cognac. Nearly everywhere known for their wine is represented in this wine collection from Bernie Madoff, and luckily up for auction May 18.
According to Morrell & Company, contents for the auction were seized from the household of Bernie Madoff, and specifically from the cellar as permitted by the United States Marshals office. While it’s a pretty well rounded lot, would you want a criminal’s sloppy seconds? If you’re purchasing the bottles for your own collection, or just want to help out those poor souls who lost $18.5 billion in the Madoff Ponzi scheme, then we might be able to look the other way.
